Drivin’ On is the second release and first LIVE CD for Mama’s Black Sheep. “This project is for the fans” says Laura Cerulli. “We wanted to create something interesting and fun that captures some of the energy from our live performances” adds Ashland Miller. Drivin’ On features nine originals and two covers, recorded at some of the duo’s favorite venues & festivals during 2011. Drivin’ On, typical of Mama’s Black Sheep, is an effortless blend of Blues, Country and Acoustic Rock. Miller & Cerulli are also joined on several tracks by accomplished Violinist Helen Hausmann, and throughout by Bassist and Recording Engineer Robin Elder.

Unmarked Highway is the debut CD for Mama’s Black Sheep, who have been touring together since 2008. “Unmarked Highway” was nominated for a Washington Area Music Award (Wammie) for “Best Debut Recording” in 2010. Effortlessly erasing boundaries between the genres of Country, Pop, R&B and Acoustic Rock music Unmarked Highway is a journey about love & life, featuring rich vocal arrangements, poignant lyrics, and an underlying groove between the musicians. Ashland Miller & Laura Cerulli are joined on the album by violinist Helen Hausmann, saxophonist Young Devereaux, and bassists Jaime Horrigan (of Sweet Leda) & Robin Elder.

Mama's Black Sheep

Donna Schonher was a dear friend, a fan, a Mom, a wife, a ball of fire, and a force of nature. She could light up a room with her smile, create something funny from nothing, and always make you feel like you were the only person in the room. She was a lover of life, of laughter, of music, and of the beach. This past February we lost Donna to a very aggressive cancer diagnosed only six months earlier. After her diagnosis, we wrote and dedicated this song “Carry You Home” to Donna, her husband Erik and their son Mac. The song is one about struggle, and we all have them, no matter how large or small. We were fortunate to be able to spend New Year’s Day with the Schonher family and play the song for them in person. Donna was employed by the Better Business Bureau and in honor of her service and her deep commitment to business and personal ethics, they have named the top award in their annual Laws of Life Essay Contest The Schonher Scholarship. The contest is offered to high school students as part of a program aimed at developing the character in today’s students so they become the ethical, responsible and trustworthy employees and citizens of tomorrow. The Schonher Scholarship is the top honor awarded to one deserving high school senior each year. Proceeds from the download of this song will benefit the fund for The Schonher Scholarship and help Donna’s memory and legacy live on.
